Built from the inside out.

Solid hardwood frames, natural fills and woven fabrics, made to order by hand in the USA. These are the materials we work with. Not every piece uses every one: each product page lists exactly what's inside.

Why fiber, not foam.

Most upholstered furniture is built around foam: it's cheap, quick to shape and soft on the showroom floor. We fill ours with natural materials instead. They let air move, recover their shape when plumped, and settle in around you over the years rather than breaking down.

Solid hardwood

Built to be inherited.

Every frame is built by hand in the USA from solid, kiln-dried hardwood. No plastic parts. It's the part of a sofa you'll never see, and the part that decides whether it lasts a decade or a lifetime.

How we use it: Frames, plinths and legs.

Natural oils

Finished to be touched.

Where the wood shows, we finish it with plant-based oils that soak into the grain rather than sealing it under a plastic coating. The wood stays warm and tactile, and small marks can be refreshed with a new coat of oil.

How we use it: On exposed wood surfaces.

Organic wool

Shape that springs back.

Wool gives a cushion its body. Each fiber has a natural crimp that compresses when you sit and springs back when you stand, and wool lets air and moisture move, so a cushion stays fresh and even.

How we use it: Cushion fill and wrap.

The Fill

Coconut coir

Strength from the husk.

Coir is the fiber from the outer husk of the coconut. It's firm, springy and breathable, which makes it a natural foundation in place of foam.

How we use it: Seat foundations and firm support layers.

Agave

Strength from the desert.

Agave is a hardy desert plant whose long leaves yield a strong natural fiber. It's tough, durable and breathable, and the plant grows with very little water. We're bringing agave fiber into our fills and foundations as another natural alternative to foam.

How we use it: Fills and foundations.

Organic linen

Softer every year.

Linen is woven from flax, one of the oldest fibers people have made cloth from. It's strong, breathable and cool to the touch, and it softens with use rather than wearing thin. Its natural slub gives every slipcover a relaxed, lived-in texture from the first day.

How we use it: Upholstery and slipcovers.

Wool upholstery

Texture you can feel from across the room.

We upholster in wool because it's resilient and slow to show wear, and it keeps its look through years of everyday use.

How we use it: Upholstery, on request.

Every piece, built for its purpose.

A deep lounge sofa and an upright chair shouldn't be built the same way. We combine these materials differently for each piece, and every product page lists exactly what's inside it.

Natural fills settle gently as they conform to you. Plump and turn your cushions regularly and they'll keep their shape for years.

Craft

Made by hand, one piece at a time.

Every Ashwick piece is built to order, by hand, in the USA. Frames are cut and joined, fills are layered by hand, and every piece is upholstered for the person who ordered it. It takes longer, and it's why each one is built to be inherited.

What we leave out.

Feel it for yourself.

Photographs only go so far with materials like these. Order swatches and feel the fabrics at home.

FAQ

Questions

Why don't you use foam or latex?

Natural fills let air move and recover their shape when plumped. We'd rather build furniture that settles in over years than cushions engineered to feel soft on day one.

Will natural cushions flatten?

They settle gently as they conform to you, which is normal. Plumping and turning cushions regularly keeps them full and even.

How do I care for oiled wood?

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. If the wood looks dry or picks up a small mark, a fresh coat of natural wood oil restores it.
